Certification(s): CCNA (CCNP desired) certification.

LOCATION: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda, MD

 

Job Description:

This position supports the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center- Bethesda (WRNMMC-B) Information Technology Department (ITD) in the “Engineering & Research” group managing requests, requirements and processes mainly focusing on the Network Security Operations group. Demonstrated experience and ability to apply concepts in computer science and information technology to the management and processing of data, information and knowledge in a DoD network environment. Ability to apply detailed technical concepts relating to switches, routers, circuits, and firewall design to statements of work, requests for proposals, and pricing documents. Demonstrated ability to design and configure systems, wireless solutions, and switches and VPN solutions. Evaluate proposed hardware specs for operational impact. Make recommendations for approval of installations or upgrades.

 

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 8 years professional experience in IT operations and support with demonstrated experience in LAN networking.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Executives as well as systems users both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to explain technical aspects in laymen’s terms, apply critical thinking skills to job responsibilities, and develop/apply alternative solutions to solve problems.
  • Ability to understand new technologies and service, and be able to apply all aspects of operations and administration, in compliance with applicable standards and policies.
  • Ability to tactfully recommend new or revised methods to effect greater efficiencies of IT systems and processes.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office suite and ability to develop and write white papers and statements of work.
  • Proficient creating basic technical documentation for networks and networking components.
  • SECRET clearance
  • Ability to understand problems and formulate requirements/solutions from non-technical requests
  • Experience and understanding of the installation and maintenance of CISCO infrastructure in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with Firewall technologies
  • CCNA (CCNP desired) certification.
  • Previous experience with DHCP technology for a large enterprise environment.
  • Familiarity with DOD security implementation (STIG’s, IAVM).

Position Goals/ Duties

  • The ideal candidate will be able to work closely with NSOC and across multiple customer service centers: Data Center, Clinical Informatics, Web services, Service Center, Telecommunications, VTC, Cybersecurity, and IT management.
  • This position will work with and coordinate among all service branches and vendors in order to move projects forward in a coordinated manner.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in providing support for end-to-end projects including hardware, software and services for an IT organization.
  • This includes performing analysis of solutions from various vendors and making recommendations to leadership on cutting-edge technology, best value and cost/benefit.
  • Should be able to work with subject matter experts, system administrators and medical staff as necessary to gather requirements and assess risks.
  • Manage development and refinement of functional business and system requirements.
  • Work with ITD services and vendors to manage Innovation and Governance projects that fall under Engineering and Research.
  • Ensure that I&G projects meet internal performance requirements in areas, such as technical service requirements, service related issues, documentation, communication, and quality control.
  • Team Effectiveness: Work closely with the project management leads to ensure project team coordination and communication. Build relationships with project managers and team members; proactively identify work assignments for completion.
